“Write drunk, edit sober” – Earnest Hemmingway
If you are a creative, you’ve likely had your fair share of booze bottles on your lips or a joint in your hand. If we think that certain music would have been created without the use of intoxicants, we’re kidding ourselves (see Pink Floyd or many others). If this applies to you, focus this use when writing and recording. Keep the editing, selection of final takes, arrangement and mixing to sober time for best results. We’ve all had that next morning of hearing a final song… and it’s horrible. If no substances of any kind are needed or depended on, that is still best.
